Batuu Must-Do’s

Happy Star Wars Day! I may be in the middle of finals right now, but mentally, I’m definitely in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The Black Spire Outpost is such a massive area, and if it’s your first time, it can certainly be overwhelming. Even if you’re a repeat traveler, there’s so many new hidden details to see. Today, I’m compiling a list of my Batuu must-dos for any visitor.

Get a Picture in Front of the Millennium Falcon

The Millennium Falcon is undoubtedly one of the centerpieces of the land. It is massive and so gorgeous! I did get some pictures during the day and in the morning, but I was far happier with the results at sunset. Not only was the area less crowded, but the colors just made everything so much more magical. With all the golden hues, it truly felt like I was living a Star Wars fantasy.

Ride Rise of the Resistance (if you can get boarding passes)

When they say Rise of the Resistance is a marvel of modern Imagineering, they’re not kidding. Without any spoilers, Rise of the Resistance isn’t just a ride- it’s an entire experience. From the start of the queue to the exit gate, there’s so much to explore. I genuinely felt immersed in the world of Rey and Kylo Ren. I hope I’ll be able to do this again next time I’m in the parks!

Explore the Marketplace

If you want to feel like you’re really in the Star Wars Universe, take the time to roam around the marketplace at Black Spire Outpost. Not only are there a ton of hidden details, but the liveliness and the hustle and bustle of all the travelers doing the same thing puts you in the middle of the story. Also be sure to check out all the stores in the area- many of them are far more than just another theme park gift shop!

Try the Local Cuisine (especially the chocolate popcorn)

Any culturally immersive experience requires taste testing, and Batuu is no different. At first, many of the menu items looked quite strange to me as they feature many pairings that are uncommon on Earth. I was hesitant, but thrilled with my choice to try the dining. My favorite was the chocolate popcorn from Kat Saka’s Kettle. I was surprised at quite how good it was and would definitely get another bag (or three) next time I’m roaming the outpost. Just don’t forget your napkins!

Interact with the Characters

This was the one thing I wasn’t able to get a ton of during my visit (I was there less than a week before the COVID closures took effect in Disneyland), but I was able to see a few stormtroopers, Rey, Kylo Ran (on a stage) and Chewbacca in the distance. For me, being able to meet the characters as they roam around the environment was so cool. I’m very used to Disney World meet and greets, where you have to wait in line, but the joy in finding a character you didn’t think you’d be able to meet and having an interaction with just them and no time constraints was beyond magical.

What are your favorite parts about Batuu, and what do I need to try the next time I make it to the Black Spire Outpost?

May the force be with you,
