I recently got back from my first trip to Myrtle Beach since high school, and much like my personal style, a lot has changed. Of course, some old classics like the Broadway at the Beach Margaritaville are still around but I enjoyed getting to explore new places and discover new highlights! It was a quick trip, but I’m eager to go back and find true hidden gems. However, I will be setting aside some time for a few of the destinations on my short list.
LuLu’s at Barefoot Landing
I vaguely remembered wanting to go to LuLu’s back in high school but not making it because they had no availability. This time, though, I was finally able to check it off the list! LuLu’s can be best described as a not-so-kitschy Margaritaville (actually, it’s owned by Jimmy Buffet’s sister)- there’s live music, relaxed energy, and a coastal-inspired menu. I got the chips and dip as an appetizer, the Chicken Key West Bowl as an entree, and a drink that doesn’t appear on the online menu (I can’t remember its name!), and everything was so fresh and tasty. The true treat, however, was dining on the back porch while watching the sunset over the water.
Black Market Minerals at Barefoot Landing
You know I love a good crystal store, and Black Market Minerals was certainly a unique one! The store was so busy, and for good reason; it had the largest assortment of unique crystal animal statues and jewelry that I’ve ever seen in one place, and it was all extremely affordable! I found soapstone animals for under $5, all of which were shapes I had never seen before, including a starfish and an ankylosaurus! I also picked up a pair of pink mixed crystal chip earrings for $3, and a beautiful piece of charoite for $8. I will absolutely be making it a point to visit Black Market Minerals again, especially to find gifts for my friends and coworkers.
Good Deed Goods
To be completely honest, I only sought out this store because I was looking for Jellycats but I am happy to share that this was the jackpot of the trip. Good Deed Goods was a really cute little gift shop that had an old-fashioned ice cream counter right as you walked in and the vibes you could only hope for in an off-the-beaten-path little store. The Jellycats were over in the corner beyond the cash register, but I found so many little ones that I had never seen before and quite a few that had been discontinued – including the Amuseable Peach that I’ve had on my wishlist for a few months. If I were driving through that part of town again, I’d absolutely stop back in!
Callahan’s of Calabash
Ok, so Callahan’s isn’t technically in Myrtle Beach. It is just north, but it is absolutely worth a stop in. The store is massive and has seemingly endless rooms, including a giant seasonal section dedicated to Christmas and Halloween. I originally went in as part of my Jellycat search trail and saw a ton of cute shirts and souvenirs, as well as a large selection of beach decor that would have made it out of the store if I had my own beach house (a girl can dream though, right?). If you love a wander-able store, you’ll love taking your time and browsing through since you’ll never really know what you’ll discover.
Pura Vida at Broadway at the Beach
I’ve been buying Pura Vida bracelets for years and have never seen or been into a company store – until this trip! The store was located in the Key West Village, right near The Hangout, which was a perfect fit in my opinion. All of the bracelets, anklets, earrings, and jewelry were displayed on the walls and organized by color scheme, which made it really easy to find exactly what I was looking for. I’d been eyeing their charm necklaces for a while, too, so I really enjoyed being able to see what they looked like in real life. I ended up bringing home some new anklets, a charm necklace I put together, a pair of earrings, and two enamel-filled rings. Highly recommend stopping in if you’re looking for simple beach souvenirs!
